Motivation

The DISASTER platform is a new tool with promising application opportunities in academic research, classroom teaching, and industry learning. This platform has already been successfully tested for research and – with overwhelmingly positive feedback – by hundreds of students in courses on operations management and blockchain technology and by executives in Europe and the United States.

The DISASTER platform offers several unique attributes including:

  1. A suite of pre-defined, ready-to-play supply chain simulation games that use concepts of blockchain combined with advanced encryption technologies
  2. Plug-and-play approach; it is easy to adjust to own needs directly in the simulation UI or in the underlying spreadsheet
  3. Open access of underlying data structure; no alignment with providers is required
  4. No coding skills are needed for adjustments (spreadsheet-based backend)

DLT

While supply chain disruptions are inevitable, their adverse effects can be mitigated. We believe that Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) can provide a way to dampen the severity of some of the consequences of imperfect human decision making by providing a trustworthy, privacy-preserving means of increasing information sharing across the supply chain.

Adoption and understanding of DLT, i.e., blockchain technology, is still limited and we believe that there are currently no easy-to-use research and education platforms that allow for broader exploration of blockchain technology in a supply chain-specific context. That is why we created DISASTER (DLT-In Sourcing and Strategic Trading Experimental Research), which allows researchers to use plug-and-play experiments for research and education, or use our easy, no-code interface to quickly customize experiments to your needs.

For any customization needs you may have that go beyond what can be implemented in our editor, we’d love to hear from you and work with you in implementing an even more customized solution! Feel free to reach out at contact@disaster-game.com
